Beauty Industry Leaders in Styling & Product Development

Visions Salon & Spa is Saskatchewan’s most well-known salon and is an anchor in the local beauty industry. The salon and spa’s adoring “5 Star Reviews” speak volumes to the success of this local business. They have been named one of Canada's top 10 salons by Chatelaine magazine and are known world-wide as a leader creating the ultimate salon service. Now labelled Saskatoon’s Best of the Best, co-owner Jackie Yochim sat down with Refined Saskatoon to explain what makes them unique.

Jackie is a third generation hairstylist, the Visions’ team mentor and leader. Recently partnering with her parents, Wayne and Debra Grund, to undertake ownership of Visions Salon and Spa, she is a passionate business partner and dedicated stylist of 16 years. Jackie has travelled North America training stylists and learning from the industry’s most admired educators. She also plays an integral part in the product development for Surface Hair Care.

It might be a family business, but it is more than a hair salon. The family created and launched their internationally known product line called Surface Hair. This professional hair care line is formulated with sustainable harvested ingredients and certified organic botanicals. Most recently designed is an organic lightening and hair colouring line called Pure Colour. The line is sold internationally and has been featured in magazines such as Elle, InStyle, Allure, Modern Salon and many more.

“Tested and given a final stamp of approval in Saskatoon, the development of products is always a fun adventure,” explains Jackie. “We are thrilled about our most recent product released called Char. It’s unique in that it is an activated charcoal hair and skin care line that works with Surface botanicals. It’s truly a new experience of clean and renewed hair and skin.”

Visions is also an Éminence spa. Éminence is a long-standing company founded in 1958 that uses sustainable farming and green practices to create natural, organic skincare products. “Our entire team is trained on the Éminence line; we use it ourselves and know it performs,” Jackie adds.

The team, which also includes makeup artists and estheticians, is a very passionate group. “We have created a dedicated atmosphere for fabulous customer service where the stylists genuinely care,” Jackie adds. "The guests are taken care of and leave feeling connected with their stylist.” If you sit in a chair at Visions, their goal is to truly connect with you, and provide a hairstyle that not only fits with your facial shape and skin tone, but also with your lifestyle and beauty needs.

Creating annual colour collections for Surface Hair, the “look book” of current and upcoming trends is produced by Visions and used as colour inspiration in salons across North America. As a sneak peak, Jackie admits they are seeing a lot of vibrant, rich colour and new bold balayage techniques. While long hair is still very much embraced, the team loves the direction that windswept bob lines are taking.

Vision’s talented stylists provide genuine customer service and always look forward to welcoming new guests. “It’s not just about getting your hair done, it's about connecting to find a style and beauty routine that suits your personal needs,” Jackie says, smiling. “The great hair part is a given.”

“I came to Visions as part of the Trash the Dress fundraiser. All the ladies were so nice and I loved the salon! Joy did my hair and I was amazed by her skill, creativity and her genuine friendliness. If I lived in Saskatoon, I would book every hair appointment there.”  —Amy Rae Beattie
